About Dal-maydi Oils
Pure Frankincense From Somali Mountains Shared With Care, Traceability, And Respect.
Dal-maydi Oils Was Born From Family Roots In Northern Somalia, Where Frankincense Has Been Tended For Generations. We Grew Up With The Scent Of Resin Drying In Baskets, Stories Of Long Trade Routes, And A Simple Rule: Take What The Tree Can Give, Never More. Today We Export Raw Resins And Steam-distilled Essential Oils Of Two Iconic Species Boswellia Carteri And Boswellia Frereana (maydi) While Supporting The Communities That Steward Them.

Where Our Franskincense Grows
Wild Boswellia trees clinging to rocky slopes in northern Somalia.
These trees survive on sun, stone, and sparse seasonal moisture. Their roots anchor into limestone and granite ledges; their crowns twist with wind. This tough landscape is precisely why Somali frankincense has such clean, bright aroma and remarkable purity.

Boswellia Carteri - Our Bright Classic
Aroma & Character
Bright, citrus-pine opening with gentle woodiness. Uplifting and clarifying without being sharp.
Habitat & Range
Found on limestone plateaus and dry ridges in northern Somalia. Trees are smaller than Maydi, but more numerous across accessible plateaus.
Traditional Notes
Carteri incense is burned for home blessings and ceremonies across the Horn of Africa and the Middle East valued for purity and mental clarity.
Resin Appearance (Raw Product)
Pale to golden "tears," typically hard and glassy. Sorted for size, color, and cleanliness.
Oil (How We Produce It)
We steam-distill carteri resin in small, traceable batches. Distillation is slow and low-pressure to protect volatile top notes. Oil is light-straw in color with a lively, sparkling profile favored in aromatherapy, meditation blends, and skincare.
Boswellia Frereana (Maydi) - Our Rare Jewel
Frankincense Frereana, botanically known as Boswellia frereana, is one of the rarest and most highly prized frankincense species…
This tree grows larger and fuller compared to some other Boswellia species, with smooth, grayish bark, pinnate leaves, and clusters of small, creamy-white flowers. Its resin, known as "Maydi tears," is softer and more pliable than other frankincense types, with a rich, sweet aroma. Historically, it has been reserved for royalty and is still considered one of the most luxurious frankincense resins in the world.

Why Maydi is Rare
Larger amber-to-golden nodules that are more pliable than carteri. In Somali culture Maydi is also chewed as a natural gum.
We steam-distill select Maydi grades separately from carteri to keep the profile pristine for perfumery, specialty wellness blends, and ceremonial use.
Known locally as "Maydi," long prized in regional trade and ecclesiastical rites. Revered as the "king of frankincense" by many Somali traders and perfumers.
