From Tree to Oil in Eight Steps
How DalMaydi takes wild Somali resin from harvest in the highlands to export-ready oil and resin with species clarity, freshness and traceability.

Tapping
A harvester makes a shallow cut in the bark. The tree releases resin, which hardens naturally in the open air over two to three weeks.

Collection
The hardened tears are collected by hand. Trees are rested between tappings so harvest quality does not come at the expense of long-term tree health.

135 Kilometres
We buy the resin unsorted as it comes off the mountain. It travels by road from the highlands to our facility in Bosaso — its only long journey before becoming oil.

Sorting
Every sack is sorted by hand at our own warehouse — by species, size, colour and clarity. We do not rely on pre-sorted resin or third-party identification.

Distillation
Fresh resin is steam distilled within days of sorting. Fresh material distils differently from resin that has spent months sitting in storage — and it shows in the oil.

Testing
Every batch is analysed by gas chromatography at an independent laboratory. A Certificate of Analysis is available on request.

Packing & Export
Oils are packed into aluminium bottles or drums and resin into export bags, together with the documentation required by the destination.
Harvest
How the resin is gathered
Somali frankincense and myrrh are not farmed like annual crops. In the highlands and canyons of northern Somalia, trees are carefully tapped; the oleo-gum resin weeps, hardens into tears, and is collected by hand across seasonal windows. That rhythm, slow, skilled, and place-specific, shapes the character of every oil and resin we supply.
We work with Somali producer relationships that prioritize tree health and harvest timing over volume at any cost. The result is material with a clear aromatic story and dependable grade.
Quality at origin
Selection before shipment
Before oil is distilled or resin is packed for export, material is sorted for species identity, visual grade, and aromatic character. That early discipline reduces surprises later, for distillers, formulators, and importers alike.
Documentation and batch consistency follow the material. When you request a quotation, you are asking for more than a commodity line. You are asking for a sourcing partner.
